Hi there,
A friend of mine has been working on a tire house.
Its built of tires, cement, pop cans and liquor bottles.
Its cheap to build and has one entire side of the house clear like a greenhouse so you can grow your own veggies all year round.

The great thing about them is their built into the ground, the cement retains the heat from the sun in the day throughout the night even in winter, so you save a bundle on heating, and you can leave your house for long periods of time without worrying about it freezing inside.

The whole project is costing her about $20k and it is a big house. The only set back is it is taking her about 2-3 years to build (can't build in winter). There is a couple who specialize in eco friendly housing and they run classes, The students learn by building the houses, and they are building hers right now. She pays for the materials and feeds them when they are there working, as well as helps out herself.
I'll try and get some pictures of it while it is still unfinished.
You can see more of these houses online by searching "tire house".
This is definatly something I am interested in doing.

also search for earthship

I drive by one everyday
it's painted orange, and the people who have it (not the orignal builders) have lots of junk and trash lying about, i'd buy it in a heartbeat if it went up for sale

My question is that wouldn't the tired release toxins as they deteriorate?
Don't get me wrong, I love the concept.

Ok Ive been searchin and searching for info on bottle walls, like a how to book or diy instructions and Im coming up with nothin. Anyone know how to build one of these walls? Over then winter I could save up all my wine bottles and beer bottles and have enough to do a wall in the back yard.

I just dont know if youd need a frame built or you just do it. Looks like you just do it but????

I think a slipform masonry technique would work for bottles. Never done it, seems I read about it in a Readers Digest "Back to Basics". In the book they were asuming the countryside is rocky, so they used up the rocks. If the countryside is filled with wine...

Readers Digest, Back to Basics. How to Learn and Enjoy Traditonal American Skillls. 1981. Pg. 44, The Slipform Method of Casting Walls. I sometimes look for used books on E-Bay or Amazon.
