Hi there,
A friend of mine has been working on a tire house.
Its built of tires, cement, pop cans and liquor bottles.
Its cheap to build and has one entire side of the house clear like a greenhouse so you can grow your own veggies all year round.
The great thing about them is their built into the ground, the cement retains the heat from the sun in the day throughout the night even in winter, so you save a bundle on heating, and you can leave your house for long periods of time without worrying about it freezing inside.
The whole project is costing her about $20k and it is a big house. The only set back is it is taking her about 2-3 years to build (can't build in winter). There is a couple who specialize in eco friendly housing and they run classes, The students learn by building the houses, and they are building hers right now. She pays for the materials and feeds them when they are there working, as well as helps out herself.
I'll try and get some pictures of it while it is still unfinished.
You can see more of these houses online by searching "tire house".
This is definatly something I am interested in doing.
