View Full Version : The Political Season

Election time, tis the shameful season that is upon us.
This should be the time that America shines, the time that we show the world what we are made of, that we are of sterner stuff, that we are fair, compassionate, that we care what happens to our country and look forward.
That we are capable of holding an election that shows the people solutions (or at least perceived solutions) to our problems, you know, give us choices.
This is the time that everyone should get together and think about what is truly best for our country and how we can go about making all those things, those good and positive things, happen, how we can all sit down together at one table (or as is the case here, a forum/board) and figure out who the best person is for the job.
Which one of the candidates will do the best for the greater whole, the country, us, the Americans that make up this country, you know, the workers, the farmers, the common laborers and meter maids, everyone.
This is the season and time where America ... well, let's just say that the “shine” isn't there anymore, but where America ... frankly I don't really know what to call it anymore, it's all so ... so ... juvenile, so high school.
This is the time that the bullies come out and the finger pointing starts and the “Neener neener neener” bullshit and the “he said, she said” and the “did you know”'s ... the time that makes us all look bad, makes us look like petulant children throwing temper tantrums.
And we have the testicular fortitude to want to call ourselves “Leaders of the free world?” ... what, we're going to take our toys and go home if we ... or stick your tongue out, blow a raspberry, or ...
I am amazed, truly amazed that we have come as far as we have as a country looking back at how this sick game we call politics really works.
It's the school yard on a grander scale, all the stereotypical players are there, the jocks, the geeks, the longhairs, the groupies ... if you can figure out and understand the hierarchy of a school yard then you have a very good handle on politics.
The repercussions of any actions in this school yard are just so much grander and far reaching when the grown-ups play the game, so much more deadly and final.
So what do we do this season?
We throw dirt, we dig in closets, we slander, malign the other guy all in a very vain and futile attempt to make oneself look better than the other guy not realizing that with each and every piece of “new news” about the “other guy” it makes you look uglier and uglier and less likely to get my vote ... ever.
It's what the world sees of us, this is what they think, we are not putting our best foot forward here during this time, nope, not at all.
I, as a citizen and veteran, want to know what it is that the candidates are going to do not only for my country, but for me as well.
I could give a flying fornicating motion at a rolling pastry product what kind of dirt they can dig up about the other guy, because they too have that same dirt in theirs so shut the blazing bloody hell up about how bad the other guy is.
I want to hear good things, I want to hear how they are going to fix things, you hear me ... fix things!
As I follow the happenings on the net from news outlets across the globe, I am disheartened and saddened at what I am reading not only in the headlines but between them as well.
I fear that we may never recover that “shine” again and that harder times are still to come.
Arrogance and greed are what brought us to where we are now, humility and compassion are going to have to be our saving grace if we ever want to get close to what we once were in the eyes of the world.

Ok, rant's over :hippie:
