As the nationwide mortgage crisis puts the squeeze on homeowners, the Cook County sheriff's office is on pace to evict more people than ever from foreclosed homes.

At least it was until Wednesday, when Sheriff Tom Dart announced he wouldn't do it anymore.

Dart cited the growing number of evictions that involve rent-paying tenants who suddenly learn their building is in foreclosure because the landlord neglected to pay the mortgage. By refusing to do any foreclosure-related evictions, the hope is that banks will change their policies.

As it happens, the decision also will spare from eviction those legitimately in foreclosure.

Bravo Sherriff Dart! :33: actual justice being served.

the 'landlords' in question may have some additional problems in this scenario.
i believe that continuing to collect rent & keeping deposits knowing that the property will be foreclosed on
& not disclosing to the lender that it was a rental may constitute felony fraud.
also, the IRS might want to look into the returns of these 'landlords' as well.

this scenario of the lenders wanting their money (reason for foreclosure) and
the renters being honest in paying the rents (roof over one's head)
lends itself to a possible solution:
aaaaaa:31: have the tenants pay the rent to the financial institution-as-landlord until things are sorted out.
this way, the lender would be able recoup some of their investment and
the tenants would have some time to prepare themselves.
perhaps the two parties could come to a rent/lease/buy deal of some kind?

Excelent solution Uncle Joe.

If I knew where to send it where it would do some good I would.

There are shutting off the gas/electric in a low income housing project here, the land lord hasnt paid the utilities in a longtime and owes over 100,000, these people have to be out by the end of the month. They have no money as it is, no where to go to. Makes me sick. How can it get to that point? Seems like the state would do something.

People around here dont seem to care though because most of these families are here because we have a huge federal prison, and alot of the people living in these houses are only living here to be closer to there family memeber who is in prison. Really shitty situation. And most of these folks arent criminals but Im sure once there kicked out on the streets they will be.

If the state pays there rent or a portion of there rent, then how can they let the land lord get away with not paying the electric and gas, which is also owned and ran by the state. New york electric and gas.

Im so sad for them, the kids, and there are elderly who live there cause thats all they can afford. The landlord lives down south somewhere too. He doesnt seem to care, I hope the go after him. Dirt bag.
