"Human rights group Amnesty International says the victim was a 13-year-old girl who had been raped... nurses were sent to check during the stoning whether the victim was still alive. They removed her from the ground and declared that she was, before she was replaced so the stoning could continue."

I understand that when we look at the cruelty of a society that is different then our own it is easy to generalize and comical to make sarcastic remarks like the one you made.

But the same and far worse has been done in the name Jesus. I hate with a passion what was done to that girl. But not all of Islam treats its women like that.

It is people, not religion, that brutalizes, hates, victimizes and destroys.

Libra,
I was having a descent day when I flipantly posted the above. It was bad and combative and did not contribute constructively to any understanding or conversation. I appologise.:(

There is much I could say about Islam that would be informative but I think I'll pass. I'm just a political and religious junky who can't seem to stay away from controversy. But I'll try... at least for a while. ;)

Hope you did indeed have an incredible day.:hippie:

And ya that wasnt cool imo. You never know who believes what around here, ya know. I thought you were referring to Obama honestly.

We dont have to agree but we can agree to disagree :D

Obama? Never even gave that a thought. Guess I never bought in to the bovine recycled hay about his Islamic roots.

Assumptions will destroy man kind one day. you never really know what someone is thinking.

What a horrible thing. Very sad, indeed. Unfortunately, such cruelty exists in most every corner of this globe. I feel overwhelmed at times when I hear of such things. I suppose the best we can do is try to make an impact in the tiny portion of this world that we touch. And keep in mind that as frustrated with our government as I am at times, our daughters will never have to endure such a fate.

Peace
MJ

The point of my original, admittedly illconcieved, response was that this happened in a place where Sharea law prevails. This what Iran, the Taliban, and the Koran calls on to rule the world, and are willing to use any means to accomplish. While the original invasion of Iraq was illadvised, immoral, and otherwise wrong, Iraq, at this point along with Afghanistan, is the battle front against such acts of inhumanity.

Yes the American brand of inhumanity is far superior.

Hmm... don't recall any one here in the northwest being stoned for not wearing a proper beard or being sexually violated or failing to cover their heads or avert their eyes recently. maybe it's different inyour part of the country. Seems to me that those who hang blacks or drag homosexualls behind trucks are usually prosequted. Even husbands who assault unfaithfull wives are jailed. Don't see many exicutions at halftime at soccer matches. must be different where you are.:)

Altho we have government sanctioned torture for anyone who our government "thinks" may be a terrorist, despite if they are or not. Seems to be pretty much the same underlying principal to me.

Again hmmm... useing admitedly questionable means to gain information from individualls who some one in a position to know thinks has information to advance the safety of inocent people. Publicly and brutally executing people who in all likely hood are innocent or at worst are guilty of violating an irrationally strict code of modesty. Sorry don't see the comparisan.

well.. how many people have been tortured and possibly killed who were not terrorists but were interrogated anyway? We don't know.. at least with the public brutalities we know it is going on, we don't even know the half of what our government has done to it's people. Then you have to think about the city life that we have here in the good ol US, in some areas you can't go into at night because your white and they may not even want to go there during the day because if you do you can be beaten to death or just straight out shot over nothing but the color of your skin.

A Patriot missile mistakenly lobbed into your living room from an American battle ship some hundreds of miles away, may lack the personal touch of being stoned by hand, is no picnic either.;)

Again guys, you are talking about sociatal aberations and unsubstantiated suspicions versus government sanctioned sociataly condoned attrosities. I see no comparison.

But I AM good at rhetoric though ;) Ya, you know I really wish that people did not find it necessary to raise their hands against one another period. I think alot of middle eastern men need to get over their penises and join the human race. I also think that isolating cultures from the rest of the world by sanctions, embargoes and whatnot doesn't help either. World cultural influence might help bring them into the 21st century. Send em' some Beatles, Nirvana, Willie Nelson, that outta do it. :)
