WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Chances dimmed that a last-minute plan being crafted by Republican U.S. senators, with White House support, to provide $25 billion (16 billion pounds) to Bailout (http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/news/international/Prospect_for_auto_bailout_dims.html?siteSect=143&sid=9991897&cKey=1227160361000&ty=ti) U.S. automakers would receive enough backing from Democrats to pass before the end of this week. Whoa! You mean the Dems are not in favor of corporate welfare?;)

Wow what a shocker
This whole bail out has me baffled really. Between all the execs of these corporations im sure they have 25 million stashed away in there accounts, pool it together and bail yourselves out.
I mean I have like 50 bucks in my savings, I wouldnt ask to borrow 50 bucks from someone else who had to borrow it to give it to me, Id just pull it out of my savings and use it. Duh ;)

well.. maybe if they hadn't each taken private jets and maybe jetpooled or took economy class they may have had a better chance. :bat::bat:

its funny really. How big companys feel that they can get anything for the federal soup line even if it involves soving more important matters (like a war) under the rug for funding.:heff2:

coming from michigan, we are pretty much screwed if something doesnt happen
and i am not for a bailout mind you
on one hand i have a lot of resentment for the big three and their ideology of looking for the big dollar items and not producing what the people want, it seems all this time every other auto company has a finger on the pulse of what the people want, why couldnt the big three (rhetorical, i can think of a lot of reasons why, just none of them meritable) fuck em, let em rot.
on the other hand the ripple effects would be horrendous around here
the thing that comes to mind is canada's black friday, Feb 20th, 1959. I cant remember the exact numbers of people but canadas prime minister had a bug up his ass against the ceo of avro and cancled funding for what was the most advanced fighter jet of its time. then he signed onto norad with the us. avro folded and in the matter of the weekend 14,000+ people were out of work. it took 20 years for them to get back on track.
if the big three doesnt fix their shit it will probably make things bleak enough that i won't stick around.

I am one on an asembly line. Alot of jobs in this country with autos.
I've heard it said that things can get even worse economicaly.
The rich get richer, we keep working and working to get ahead, only to have another rug pulled from beneath our feet.
The "Rat Race" goes on and on, time for change.
I know alot of stuff about assembly plants.

Some guys I work with know how to change a specific engine "chip" wich will increase fuel economy AND performance. A chip, uno chip... so why is this chip not already standard equipment?

I read somewhere (wish i would have saved it) that if they do declare bankruptcy, it would be a great time for them to drop brands that aren't selling well and gear towards making better cars with higher gas mileage. It also went on talking about how they can tear up current union contracts (but if they start building cars again new contracts will have to be written obviously). But anyways it was all positive things the big 3 could do. IF anyone knows what I'm talking about, please post.

On the matter of 'loans' to the auto industry, NO.
There are hospitals, healthcare centers, schools, daycare and seniorcare facilities
across the country on the literal brink of closing, where's their bailout?
They (Detroit automakers) have had several decades
and multiple opportunities to make themselves financially viable.
They pioneered most of the alternate fuel, hybrid and electric vehicle technology
that is now being sold back to Americans as imported vehicles.
They’ve fought almost every health and safety issue
of the last fifty years, wasting time & money.
The automakers got themselves into it
and can damn well bail themselves out.

Didn't the auto industry get bailed out before? Organic Consumers Association had an interesting like in their last e-mail, http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_15629.cfm, about General Motors. On the subject of cars, just watched Tucker, A Man And His Dream over the weekend. Is about a man, Preston Tucker, that tried to manufacture his own automobile in the late 40's and the big three put him out of business.
