FRESNO, Calif.—An autopsy will be performed this week on a Mendota man who died after being shot by sheriff's deputy with a bean bag gun.
A Fresno County sheriff's spokesman says deputies responded Wednesday evening to a call about a domestic dispute at a home. When they arrived, the 24-year-old suspect barricaded himself in a bedroom and refused to surrender.
A deputy then shot him in an upper body with a bean bag shot, allowed them to come in and handcuff him. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he was pronounced dead.
The man's name has not been released.
Bean bag guns are considered a less lethal weapon, with a similar effect as pepper spray and Taser stun guns, often used to quell incidents without bloodshed.
Authorities say the shooting is under investigation.
