HOLD ON! That Bocca soy-meatless-chik'n patty isn't good for me? I don't know much about nutrition, but I assumed those would be good for me & not full of bad stuff. Please correct my bad assumptions & help me fix my struggling vegetarian diet.
I am going to get a vegetarian cookbook when I get a little dough, but til then, what are some easy recipes for 1 person? thanks a billion!
Peace & love

Dare I sacrilege the sacred name of soy?
Yes, I dare.
Ok.....soy, like all beans (legumes) contains a phytate (type of acid) that blocks the body's absorption of iron. In all legumes, except for soy, that acid is destroyed (taken apart) by long soaking and long low slow cooking. No amount of cooking destroys the acid in soybeans.
The older generation of Asian people did not eat a lot of soy. They ate a lot of rice. Soy was for starvation times. Studies may say differently but studies are done in more than one way. One way is to actually have patients and moniter them. Another way is to take a street poll.
Independent studies do not have to use controls. They can use only 20 people and call it a study.
Soy is pushed by the media.
It takes less than one cent (american) to produce one gallon of soy milk. Then it sells for $2.50 a quart.
The soy industry makes, at last count, over 70 million dollars a year. So of course they're going to tell you how good it is for you.
People started eating soy, en mass, back in the '70s. Studies were done and the results were not good.
The hormone-like substances in soy are not good for men. It can take the lead right out of thier pencils. Hmm...could that be why there are medicines now for impotent men?
Soy is already in a lot of processed and prepared foods- canned soups, chili, bread, margerine, coffee creamer, and the list goes on. Look at the ingredients on stuff in stores and see just how many contain soy. If it's so good for us then why aren't we all super healthy, considering it's in almost everything you eat- unless you buy foods that are close to thier natural states. ?
Soy is very cheap to grow and proccess. It is not a miracle food, it will not cure everything from hot flashes to wieght problems. There is no miracle food. Eat everything. Don't eat a whole bunch of one type of thing. You will not stay healthy if you concentrate on one type of food.
Soy is good for making printer ink.
My soy information is in my webtv. I'll have to go to it to get more info. There are other things that soy can do, especially to developing children. I can't remember off hand what organ it is that soy affects.
This is a rant. Pardon my french, but soy just fucking pisses me off. It's a big fat lie created by the soy industry and the media. It's all about money. Just money.

Sun- there is some evidence about too much aluminum getting in the system. It was connected with possible alzhiemers (which used to be called dementia, or senility) later in life. I can't remember if that just for small children or applies to adults as well. And I can't remember which soy product does it. Lol, I've got to go re-read everything. I need a crash refresher course :o
Peace,
Cassandra
