Here is my webtv site with all the links to soy information. It's a lot of reading. One or two of them are actually pro-soy sites- I put them on the page before I had read far enough :o
Read them all then make up your own mind :)

If anyone has trouble clicking on the links let me know and I'll paste the actual links in here.

All of this is interesting and informative, but as with anything, be aware of who's behind a given source -- not everyone is an "expert." I thought the article form your site at this link http://www.gourmaid.com/soydanger.html was particularly interesting because it brings up something I posted about in the old forum -- namely, that in large part, some of the problems associated with soy come from where and how it's processed. As the article says, soy protein, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, as well as some other things have deceptive names. They're not as "natural" as they look, and it's in its unnatural forms that soy becomes especieally bad.
Personally, I'm not convinced that I should stop eating soy altogether, but I do stick to eating only those foods made with whole soybeans and nothing with the soy proteins etc. etc. that have been processed.

A bit of everything is a good way to eat. But no matter how it's proccessed or prepared it is still soy and it still contains non-destroyable phytates. There are just so few foods anymore that don't have some kind of soy in them. Even cornoil margerine has it. So does peanut butter (although peanuts contain the same phytate- but it can be destroyed when they're cooked). Fish sticks. Bacon bits. Corn muffin mixes. Dry onion soup mixes. Soy is also called "lecithin" and "natural flavors" on the nutritional info on food products. Unless you cook mostly from scratch you're going to get a lot of it in your diet.
Keep on reading.....:D there is a lot and some of the information contradicts other information. You have to take it all in.

Hemp, damnit! :)
Hemp has many food applications and could augment or replace soy

Hey Delta, why didn't I think of that? I bet it is loaded with fiber. And if you don't want to eat it you can wear it. Or you can wear it, get stranded, then eat it. That would go real good with our bamboo civilization :D

I DO try to cook most everything from scratch, because I don't want the extra soy or any of the usual array of other additives. It's so unnecessary that food companies add so much crap to their products--even the "all natural" stuff. Plus, I think food generally tastes better when you make it yourself.

Yes, scratch cooking does taste better. It HAS taste. Once in a while I buy something proccessed, just to get a break, and it's like...no taste. And not many vitamins either. Then I swear I'll never buy it again...you know. They add all that crap to make it cheap. Make a bigger profit. Sad, ain't it? Once I bought a jar of gravy, because I had a coupon. The pretty picture on the jar looked sooooo good, like hot savory, meaty flavored gravy. It tasted like slightly flavored flour water. This whole subject makes me want to go write in my notebook!

Cassandra
