I do a 30 min. garden class for the kindergarten kids at my daughters's school every Friday. I feel tapped out of ideas for today!!! Since it's raining, we'll have to do something inside. We've already planted, harvested, weeded, done good bugs, bad bugs, seedlings, compost, fossil dig, we ate the tomatoes we grew....what else?

I can stretch it..I just need an idea that could be related to a garden project/or a garden.

No - I can't do the benefits of growing hemp. hahaa

How about doing a thing on Vanilla?
Both the wife and I are into growing Orchids and make our living with the things, so know a lot about them.
See if perhaps you can get (and it probably won't be in flower) a Vanilla Plantifola at one of your local nurseries, or even specific Orchid nursery if you have one close by.
But if you need it today then that might be a problem, lol.
Anyhow, you can show them that "Vanilla," the taste that most folks love, actually comes from the contents of a dried seed pod of the Vanilla Plantifola Orchid plant.
Or do a pictorial thing with info from the Web ... just Google it, lol.
This might be something for a different Friday perhaps too ... let me know if you want to do this and need help in finding a plant as I can get one from my wife's job and even have them send it to you.
Good luck and have fun either way ... don't envy you your job there, lol.
hugs and hickies

Great idea Greah!

Kids love edible flowers, theres tons of edibles to pick from. Get some seeds and grow those? Or pick up some plants, start munching :D

Excellent!! I think I'm out of time to scout a Vanilla plant/flower for today..but I like the edible flowers idea! I think they would get a kick out of vanilla and cocoa/ maybe coffee..can do a 'sweets' day.

Going to see what is growing in my yard...I think I saw some nasturtiums and dandelions floating out there..hehehe

Thank u!!! :D

I'm so jealous that you have live flowers outside this time of year!

Mikey and I are studying germination and plant parts by growing a bean plant in a clear glass so he can see everything as it grows. You just wrap a piece of construction paper so that when it unfurls it pushes the seeds against the outside of the container. Then you push the seeds about 3/4 of the way down the glass (or jar) and add water to the bottom of them. He was so excited when it started sprouting and then to see how much it has grown every day. Now we're going to see how long it can live without any soil.

Science (especially biology) was always my favorite subject as a kid.:D
