OK, so I got this old project that I was thinking of and an LED light bulb is my only solution. See, I have this really ugly brass light fixture on my front porch that I'm going to replace. We bought some arts and crafts/mission style fixtures to place around the house, when ever we can get enough money for an electrician. But the only reason I haven't replaced the ugly brass one is b/c it has a motion sensor on it. I did replace the 100w bulb the previous owner had in it with a CFL when we first moved in. Now there is no problem with the light, but CFL's have to take time to warm up when it's very cold and it constantly has to go off and on I fear it will wear the CFL out faster.
So when I replace the fixture the new one will not have a motion sensor on it, meaning when we have it on, we will be away from home. I don't want to put an incandescent back in it, in fact I don't own any normal sized incandescent bulbs. I also have a few fixtures that were included in ceiling fans that have these weird small sockets that take these hard to find incandescent bulbs, but I'll go into detail on those some other time.
So I want to place an LED bulb in the outside fixture so that way when we are out of town, I won't have the nagging sensation of energy consumption while I'm enjoying my time away from home. Has anyone had an experiences with LED light fixture bulbs (not xmas lights and such). I'm looking for omnidirectional, not spotlight. I know the prices are high, but I need to know what I should look for to give me enough light on my front porch. Please feel free to ask any questions on my current bulbs and any information you may have to share.
