Ya know... I think mothers day is over rated. Before people get mad read it all. Mothers day has commercials and all kind of other ways to remind kids and society that mothers day is coming up... but what about fathers day??? I don't thin k I have ever seen a faters day commercial or anything ese about it other than some small print on a calendar. I personally don't care if I get anything for fathers day or not, I haven't yet and my kid is almost 6, but it just makes me sick. "Don't forget mom, but f**k dad! He has enough tools and socks and ties already.. it is what he gets for x-mas and his b-day anyhow" and where is grandparents day?? or kids day??? kids day is their b-day ok so that mean parents don't have b-days? It's just another hallmark holiday to encourage people to waste money because they HAVE to, if they don't they are a bad kid and don't care about their mom. what a load of b.s.!
On another note there are always hand made picture frames, tracing hands and feet with a little cutsey note from the kid, or the classic breakfast in bed.

You give birth, then let me know how you feel about Mothers day :D
And yes I think alot of it is too commercialized, that takes the fun out of it for me. But still.

I just hate how it is over done. I don't dispute that mothers deserve mad respect and credit. But giving birth does not make a woman deserving of being celebrated on mothers day. Just think about all the women that have killed their kids, given them up for adoption because they don't want to deal with them and what not.

Adam,
Here is the deal...
If you forget mother's day, you won't hear the end of it from your mother...ever.
If you forget father's day, then you probably won't hear much about it from him.
It's called the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Ya, it kinda does :D
Yes there are undeserving mothers, but that cant spoil it for the majority of mothers that do.

You know ... I really dislike "days when you're obligated to give presents". Birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Christmas, ad infinitum. I would choose to give differently - when I see something I believe someone I love would like, I get it for them or make it for them, and I give it, right then. I despise this "certain day" idea, as I too often end up giving whatever I can find, instead of the ideal present.
But, I can't buck the society I live in, so I go along with it. Hopefully I'll find some good presents and squirrel them away until a "proper day". I'd much rather just give them when I find them, but I just can't afford double presents.
Ah, well, such is life. :)

Gaston, I agree with your conundrum, I feel the same way. In the last few years I haven't had much money and such to find presents for people at the allocated times. So I've taken to making cards for special occasions and holidays, and when I find or make the "perfect gift" I might squirrel it away if the date it's waiting for is coming up relatively soon, but I might just send it on right away, letting that person know how special they are to me.
Don't forget, most people get gifts on those special dates, but an ordinary day becomes extraordinary when you give or receive something special.
* and an extra note on "Thankful Days" (mother, father, children, grandparents....) what does it say about our society that we need national days to give thanks for our family members?

I guess I dont see it that way. Some people may only do nice things or be thankful for special people in there lives on just those allocated days but I dont. I appreciate my mother everyday and she knows it, but on mothers day its just a special day for her to be recognized with all other mothers. I dont like "having" to do much of anything but Ive never felt that I "had" to buy my mom anything to show her I care on that certain day or any other ol day.
I get where people are coming from I am just glad I dont hold resentment towards these appointed days. Well.....except valentines day :D Ive never had a valentine to share it with. So screw that one, LOL
