Helping my son with his homework the other day I learned something interesting. His class is studying the Revolutionary war; the French navy blocked the harbor at Yorktown so that General Cornwallis and the British Army could not be resupplied nor receive reinforcements. It was because of this that General George Washington was able to achieve victory.
So boys and girls if it weren't for France we might not even be a country. So next time you catch the stale rhetorical anti French bias perpetuated by our loving "fair and balanced" counterparts, you can point this little FACT out to them. Because now you are as smart as a fifth grader.

The Statue of Liberty (French: Statue de la Liberté), or, more formally, Liberty Enlightening the World (French: La liberté éclairant le monde), was presented to the United States by the people of France in 1886. Standing on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, it welcomes visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans traveling by ship.

Carol and I watched a great movie, Freedom Fries: And Other Stupidity We'll Have To Explain To Our Grandchildren. Perhaps it my French ancestry, but I have always thought that American's view of the French was biased and our joint history was overlooked.
