What do you all think of Monessori schools? I don't know much about them but I attended one in kindergarten. I remember taking Spanish and French, and doing interesting puzzles. And I also remember that there were no grade scores (in the upper level classes like 5th grade) and that most of my teachers were from Sri Lanka. Any other experiences? I don't know why, but I've been interested in Montessori's concept for the past few days. I think I'm gonna do some net research.
Heh, this is what happens when I smoke this delightful, cerebral sativa goin around.

I used to hear good things about them. That was years ago but I remember one thing they taught little kids. It was the steps for washing hands. They had a phylosophy that normal things like that could be confusing to very small children and possibly cause mental stress that could, in turn, lead to problems. So they were taught in steps- first turn on the water, then get the soap, hold it under the water, rub it...etc.
I also heard that kids were given wider choices for picking subjects. Like, you didn't have to study something that bored your brains out.
Hey, my brain is also being entertained by the savita tonight :D

My mom owned one when I was born..all of us kids lived in the schoolhouse at night. We have the cutest pics of my brother bathing in a bucket because there was no shower! Ok, I am totally straying off the subject.... .
The montessori approach to education was founded by Dr. Marie Montessori who was twice elected for the Noble Peace Prize for her contributions to the field of education. The montessori method allows the child to learn through hands on experience and discovery. The montessori theory is not unlike the John Holmes theory of unschooling. It is my understanding that by letting a child have freedom when it comes to exploring thier enviroment they will awaken thier mind and learn with little prompting or leading.

Good Luck! I think it is a fantastic approach to educating your child :)
