Hello everyone, I need some advice and some help. I dont know how many of you knew before, but I have a son who is four years old and in the fall he will be in kindergarden. But since I live in a diffrent city now, (one with much more oppertunity for growth and a higher education,) his father is fighting me. The school district I live in is wonderful and has an incentive program called "The Promise". It allows any graduating student of the district who has attended for a minimum of four years, a four-year college scholarship and is funded entirely by a large group of very rich, very generous, individuals I believe are connected to the major pharmacutical companies in the area. I have filed a motion with the court system seeking to change my current custody arraingement so he can stay with me for five days for school purposes since he already lives with me mon-thurs. And I do drive him back to Bloomingdale(the town where his dad lives) to take hime to perschool already from Kalamazoo (the town where I live) because his father, we'll call him... Ralph, enrolled him in the preschool there without telling me last fall, and me not wanting to be the mean mom and yank him out, and since I wasent working at the time, agreed to it. I feel like he is going to try and enroll Jonathan in another school without my knowledge. Since we have joint physical AND LEGAL custody, hasent he voilated any rules by doing this? I hope I havent brought anyone down with all this baby-daddy nonsense but it is very important, and anyone who has any insights opinion and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank You all so much!!

Hi Emili,

Before this escalates, call Ralph and calmly explain (even if you want to pull his hair thru the phone) and tell him that 1.) your child is w/ you for the majority of the week and 2.) his academic future may be easier if he stays within your town district.

Most schools have already enrolled for fall. You should register your son for the 2009/2010 school of your choice asap. Since you are 'in district', you shouldn't have any problems doing this. This will hold your son's spot while you work out legal details.

It sounds like you are working now? Get your ducks in a row now, and after your son is enrolled, find out about their 'after care' program should you need to take advantage of it for work reasons. You may have to show the court this (should it come to that).

I wouldn't sweat it - you already have him M - R, and the opportunities your district offer sound great!!

best of luck - just move forward!! ;)

Ask Ralph how much he is saving out of each payday to send your son to college. When he calms down, you can tell him how you can get his tuition paid without haulin' old Ralphie back to court. :D (hey, where's the "evil grin" icon when I need it?)
