I thought this was a pretty cool idea, a great way to use those plastic barrels, I see them free all over the place. I already have rain barrels and Id love to have some chairs that could just stay outside, no worries about them getting ruined!

What a clever idea. Mother's had directions, years ago, for making a rocking chair out of those big electrical spools.

This came from mother earth news too! Now a rocker outta those spools would be so cool! I used to have one of those spools by our fire pit, we used it as a table!

I love mother earth news!

Long long time ago (early 70's) we covered one and used it for a coffee table and the really big ones were made into a play area / fort? for the kids. Saw a stack of them last week outside of a company near work - if I could figure out how to lug one into my apartment (3rd floor) I'd see if they'd let me have one of the smaller ones.

I love Mother Earth News too - have been getting it since it was first published. Don't remember seeing the barrel chair, tho. Was it in a recent issue?

I have the MEN digital archive CD's. I'll look in them to see if the spool design in in it.
