I want to make a stone patio, and I dont know how. I thought I could just lay flat rocks and pour sand or something in the cracks, but the more I read, the harder it seems. I really dont want to dig up, the soil there is clay and rocks, lots of it. SO cant I lay down some of that fabric or newspapers, lay the rock and pour sand in the cracks? I dont need it to be perfect at all.
Whatcha think, anyone done this before?

Wont it level out over time?

Really...all you need a flat surface w/ sand as the foundation..i imagine you can use your exisiting ground, as long as you level off the sand you put on top.. You are supposed to 'stamp' the sand down...not sure if there is another tool you can use to do this..or if it's something you rent..
once you have a hard sand base - lay the rocks, pavers, bricks, etc. and then go back and fill sand between the spaces. then sweep excess off..
