Amazingly enough, in this great country of ours, children go hungry every day. For most, summer is hard because not only do children need supervision while parents work, but it also means the reduced lunch/breakfast programs are gone - which are sometimes the only meals kids get for the whole day. I have seen this at my daughter's elementary school...it kills me.

However, this summer, some school districts throughout the nation are offering free lunches to children ages 2-18 at various community parks/schools. There is no paperwork, etc. Just show up. In these financially difficult times, programs like this are important & unfortunately, getting the word out is half the battle.

I'll be researching some areas throughout the US, but for San Diego County - here is the list of parks, schools for those who could use the extra help w/ food.

In Cherry Creek Schools, there is no summer feeding program per say, but 11 elementary schools are in session during the summer, and the school lunch program there continues - and students who qualify for reduced lunches there are given them free, according to district
public information officer Tustin Amole.

That is great! Ive seen it at Kris's school too, some kids only eat at school. Its horribly sad, and crazy to think with a world full of obese people that anyone can go hungry these days.

Thanks for posting these I really hope it reaches and helps someone!
