Just wondering where you guys get hippie style clothing. What are some brand names (if any)? Most stuff I've run accross has been at shows, someone made it for me, or thrift/indie type stores. But are there actual known manufacturers of hippie-ish clothing?
Thanks!

Gypsy Rose is a manufacturer of patchwork clothing from Guatamala... but it's crap. I've seen it as some stores... Just make your own!! But if you really can't sew, there's a lot of sewers on the internet or e-bay who do some good stuff.. or comission one of us!! But if you're hell bent on a name brand hippie line, gypsy rose has a website or they sell through hippiethreads.com or hippieshop.com.... as you can tell, I spend alot of time on the internet looking for clothes... good luck

:hippie: I'd say try Wal*Mart that's a good place to start. I found a brown 60's/70's style shirt with the long flowing sleaves, the hippie style on the clearance rack in the Women's/Junior's department. I hope that helps! Goodluck, andhopeyou find what you're looking for!

Walmart is bad, but the girl is young and for some reason this post makes my heart hurt for her. :(
Lil'hippygirl read the politics sub-forum..Then if you want some cool clothes but don't have alot of cash check out thrift stores. You can buy 5 shirts for the price you would pay for one at walmaart aka the evil empire. I saw that you are in Riverside..there is a lot of kick ass untapped thrift stores in your area.

i don't understand why people would want to spend loads of money on one item when you can get a very similar thing for a third of the price...it just doesn't make sense!

I'm a quality freak.
I'll seriously spend three times what I'd pay somewhere else if I think the quality is much better.
I've learned that just because two things look similar, they often have very different washing instructions and seams.
ps.
MM- it made my heart hurt a little bit to read that criticism as well.

I didn't mean it as criticism. I just think that people should really think before they speak. I mean, this whole thread doesn't really make sense to me in the first place. It's like an oxymoron. "Hippie Brand Name Clothes". That's like saying "Envioromentally safe toxic waste".. the two just don't go together. But that's just my opinion. I probably should've been a bit more sensative, and if I had noticed her age, I would've been. It's just that, like I said, I think people should think (or read) before they speak. That's all. :group_hug

I do too.
I assumed you hadn't noticed her age as well, because it's not as if you are ever mean to people. It's not even as if what you wrote was mean... just that a young girl who doesn't know anything about Wallmart might have hurt feelings and feel a little dumb because if it.
But whatever...
I admittedly thought the same thing when I read it, but then I realized that she didn't know.
Also, you're a really colorful writer, so what you write might appear to be stronger than you actually intend for it to be. It's just one of the failings in being so talented, Strawberry!
It's alllllllllllllllllllllllllllll gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood, lady! :)

:D Yea, occassionally, I come across as sharp. I was showering and thought about... perhaps I should've thought before I spoke. Maybe I can blame it on PMS? Nah... I take full responsibility.. But hey, LilBlondie, it's good to see that someone so young isn't biased on places to shop. Most young women your age wouldn't be caught dead al Wal-Mart because it's not at the mall... So that's cool! :hippie: Yay! Group hug!! :group_hug

It's Ok Strawberry, none of your posts have ever been mean...Sometimes I get overly sensative and get my feelings hurt for other people when even they don't have their feelings hurt :o ...thanks for posting back in such a positive manner, group hug right back at ya! :group_hug

oh i totally agree....cheap and cheerful is great, but if i can see that something is blatantly bad quality i wont buy it... of course i'll go for a more expensive version.... however i make a few of my own clothes so i'm used to my clothes falling apart on me... tee hee hee.... :D

I knew this thread would yield a response like this. I know that the term brand name sounds anti-hippie, but there ARE names of peoples' organizations (whether they be one person or a group of people) that make these clothes. Ben & Jerry's is a brand name of ice cream, but they're not an evil corporation. My point is, it's not that much of an oxymoron. It just depends on the magnitude (small being one person selling clothes with a name attached, to large being the evil Sam Walton Empire) of how you define "brand name".
Thanks for all the advice, though.

I understand what you are saying now. At first, my impression was that you wanted to find a large mass production clothing line that did "hippie" type clothes. But yea, phunkymonkey.com, hippieclothes.com, any of the single sellers on the internet, including myself and I think plainjanepatchwork is on here too, have a "brand". Like mine is Strawberry Fields Clothing... I'm sorry for the confusion. :hippie:

I like to make my own clothes and buy clothes from the individual sellers on the internet. My favorites are phreakyboutique.net, phunkybrewster.com, thecalicokids.com, phishin4kompliments.com, funky-frocks.com, patchworkpastiche.com, and threadheadcreations.com. I am a quality freak like Bandaide and all the clothing I have ever made or bought from these lovely ladies is built to last!! I also avoid that gypsy rose crap like the plague because it is taking what I and my sewing sisters and brothers do and making it totally generic.
