Hi,
I was wondering if smoking about half a gram a week will impair a very physically and mentally active lifestyle. Also, which is harsher on the lungs, smoking from a pipe/joint or from a bong?

Also I have been thinking about the "dangers" of marijuana and trying to relate it to other things that society sees as fine. For example, I dont know if anybody saw the movie Super Size Me, but after a month of eating nothing but mcdonalds food doctors basically told him that if he were to continue this way he would die. His cholestoral went up, he couldnt sleep, and was starting to feel pain in his heart. I have seen people who smoked everyday for a month and although I wouldnt smoke everyday for a month, there definitly were not drastic health issues arising. I tend to feel that smoking once a week does have some consequences, but I dont think they outweigh the pleasure it can bring to someones life. I would bet that there are other things like mcdonalds that have far greater consequences than weed but that people tend to dismiss because it isn't labeled a drug. I have ideas in my head that I havent completely put together and polished so I apologise for rambling. If anyone understood what I was trying to say please post some feedback. Thanks.

There are other far, far more knowledgeable people here who can elaborate...but from my PERSONAL knowledge...

Bongs are definitely easier on the lungs than a joint. When you smoke a joint, not only is the smoke harsher, but you're also getting residue from the paper, etc.

With bongs, water filters out a lot of the tarry junk. Some people use alcohol in bongs but I don't recommend it as alcohol can absorb some of the THC.

I've smoked up to about five days a week and didn't notice much of a difference.

I think alcohol or cigarettes used on a regular basis are far worse for you...

For me personally...I just wouldn't get into smoking weed so much that you're high more than you're not...that's just my humble opinion though.

As I said, there's others here far more knowledgeable than mere me.

Hi,
I was wondering if smoking about half a gram a week will impair a very physically and mentally active lifestyle.
Hahaha! Young smokers, gotta love 'em. Dude, a half gram in a week is nothing. If you are staying active, it will do little to nothing to you physically, and it will only help your mental activity (that is, if you let it - if you just sit on the couch, turn off your mind, and watch TV, that is all you'll get out of it). Seriously, I've gone through periods where I was smoking a half gram a day several times a day for months... And my mind is neither turning to sludge, nor is my body going to hell in a hand basket - just to give you perspective on how little a half gram a week is :)

Also, which is harsher on the lungs, smoking from a pipe/joint or from a bong?
Burning any plant material in any way is going to be hard on your lungs, that's just the way it is. Smoking from a bong, bubbler, or other water filtered device is going to be easier and it removes some of the extra stuff that you don't want in your body (but by no means all of it). If you are seriously worried about your lungs, you can invest in a vaporiser, which will only make enough heat to get the THC vaporised and not enough to burn the plant matter - this is very good for your lungs. Unfortunately, vaporisers are expensive and if you have to hide from your parents, not very portable or hideable. The other lung-friendly alternative is eating the marijauna, but generally, it requires a lot more marijuana at once so can be expensive and you need full access to the kitchen - so cooking with your parents around isn't the best idea, either.

Also I have been thinking about the "dangers" of marijuana and trying to relate it to other things that society sees as fine.
That's good...

I have seen people who smoked everyday for a month and although I wouldnt smoke everyday for a month, there definitly were not drastic health issues arising.
As long as you are staying active and taking care of yourself, it is not going to gradually destroy your body (except some lung damage, but this is a bit of a DUH and for people doing it, acceptable risk).

I tend to feel that smoking once a week does have some consequences, but I dont think they outweigh the pleasure it can bring to someones life.
Which consequences? Perhaps we can help you minimize them :)

I would bet that there are other things like mcdonalds that have far greater consequences than weed but that people tend to dismiss because it isn't labeled a drug.
You are correct, sir. Our general society is so great, isn't it?

Not to overly push my political agenda, but perhaps you were touching on prohibition, propaganda, and more (http://www.happyhippie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=255&page=1)?

Thanks.

Thanks for everyones input, it really helps. If anyone read my first post it sort of explains why I am so conservative and cautious in my approach towards herb. Sometimes I just get too caught up, and forget that life is way too important to take so seriously. Thanks again.

I may try to make one this weekend... my lungs always feel a little scorched after smoking...even only two hits and I can feel it in my throat for several days....even using a bong.

*nod* Those ghetto base pipes work pretty well, just make sure it is *clear* glass; you do not want the frosted stuff ( you DO want the frosted dank, though :p )

Well as I was working today..making my rounds around campus I decided to keep my eyes open for stuff I could use for my vaporizer...boy did i luck out...got sent on a call to a chemistry building!!! I have keys to a bunch of old store-rooms and stuff...found one room way in the back with a bunch of junk just piled in a corner and voila! Found one round bottom 1,000 ml pyrex flask! Found a cork in the art building and purchased some 1/4" diameter plastic plumbing pipe....

My only concern is that the flask might have too big a chamber....

I'm going to try making it this weekend.

Well...the pyrex flask didn't work so well..I'm assuming the glass was too thick to let enough heat through to the herb...so I'm trying a good ol' lightbulb tonight...

A pipe is always screaming to be used an abused:)
I would make my own designs if they wouldnīt.

half a gram? hah! :D If I had half a gram a week, I'd never smoke it because I'd lose it first...
