So I'm thinking about starting massage school when my lil cub starts full day kindergarten this fall.
Any of you folk been through a massage program? I'm a little concerned about the clinic work load and scheduling since I'm a single parent. The actual class hours are PERFECT for our fall schedule but I'll have to do a 100 hour of practicals in order to sit for the national exam.
It's also a BIG chunk of money and I'm wondering if it's going to be worth the investment...back before I had the lil one I would have done it just for the education, now days I have to look at it as a career move. So I'm wondering if we got any working therapists out there who can give me some insight.

Blessings Y'all

okay... okay...

I don't have any advice either... sorry!

But I want to wish you luck, most certainly~!

Also, I'm not really certain what your financial situation is, but many programs offer a lot of help to people. Single mom's are a shoe in for financial aid. If you haven't looked into the aid you can recieve, you should. Almost my entire college career was free. (Grad school is a whole different story though.)

One hundred hours isn't a lot!!!! It IS if you are working on top of it! That's where it all gets tricky. You would have to miss time with your son, but maybe for only a few weeks. If you can do it all in one swoop than you can get it done in less than three weeks, right? Soooooooooo... maybe you can hire a sitter to pick him up from Kindergarten those weeks?

I'm sure you've thought of all of this yourself...

I'm interested to hear what you discover... so keep us posted!

Peace!

Libra, if your thinking about a "career move" I can't recomend herbalism. Don't get me wrong...I went to herb school myself and loved every minute of it. Herbal medicine is just a hard skill to market unless you live in a highly progressive fairly metropolitan area.
Most of the Herbalists I've know who make a living are childless and poor, which I was about before I got knocked up. My plan was to do herbal first aid (the specality I studied) at protests and Rainbow Gatherings and the like. I was planning my trip to seatle to do first aid at the WTO protests when I found out I was pregnant...and my plans changed quickly :p.
I dunno maybe you can make it work, I just know that other than selling lotions and tea at festivals and crafts fairs I'm never really found a great market for my education...course herbal first aid might be just a bit too out there ...

Bandaid, thanks for the support and ideas! I'll let you know as I figure it out. Hopefully I can help out some of the other mama's while I'm working my way through it.
