I've wanted to started cultivating the root galangal for awhile now, but I'm not entirely sure how to and I don't know where to find the live rhizomes I'd need to start growing it. . . . I've looked on a TON of herb sites and other gardening/plant sites and can't find it anywhere. All the sites that do have it just have the root already cut or powdered for cooking use *aah frustration at its greatest* So does anyone here know where I can find some / cultivate it?
Thanks and Peace :)

PS Sorry I've realized my threads are kind of overtaking this forum, so my condolences but I'm so lost! *blushes and hides face in masses of hair*

I tried a search, also. One place had them but does not ship them. You have to go there. I don't know if it some law they're going by or what. I didn't go into the site much.
They're tropical plants. They may have quite a struggle growing in a non-tropical region.
But you never know, I grew a pineapple once. Just one. Small and delicious. The only one out of four plants.
Good luck :)

I LOVE galanga--it's so good fresh!! I have seen it in Asian markets with good produce sections. Maybe you could try there. Also, in the spring, some Asian markets have exotic seeds for planting. Can you start it by just planting a really fresh piece? (I'm a beginning gardener).

You know, that's probably highly possible. I started my pineapple plants from store stuff. The store was cutting the leaves (the entire tops) off thier "fresh" pineapples because they were getting old. They were taking the pineapple meat and cutting the outer layers off the sides and bagging them for sale. We got the leaves for free. They were already growing tiny roots.
I say try it and see :)
