I have a real issue with the reported "Street value" of confiscated drugs. Especially when grow-ops are involved. Does anyone know if they have standard methods for calculating this or not? Does it change with time? It is ALWAYS inflated so much that it really makes me laugh. This is one i just read:
10,000 marijuana plants = $11 million on the street
.....well i guess $1000/plant is not that inflated (if 1 plant>100g)...but still....
It makes it hard to believe anything cops say:)

That figure is really not all that inflated. A grand per plant is probably a fairly highball figure, but reasonable I would think. I'm no grower so i may be talking out of my arse, but... I do know what you're saying though. The news always reports a pot bust of some dude growing like thirty plants and suddenly he's some major drug lord or something...

They also say an ounce is enough for one person to smoke one joint per day for THREE MONTHS. That's laughable. Of course, I'm something of a heavy smoker, but even on half gram joints per day, that's only two months...
The truth is, there's lots of money at the top of the chain. The problem is, it's the illegality of it that is causing the price market! If it weren't illegal, the government could tax it, tax it again, and tax it again, and it would *still* be less costly than it is now.
On a side note, street prices suck. Growing for yourself is the best price. Knowing a commerical grower really well is nice (usually free!). Being close to a grower is a good price (one or two steps away).
On yet another side note PotPrice (http://www.potprice.com) tracks (by contribution from users) the street price in a given area. Of course, then you have to rely on whatever so and so think qualifies as quality.....
