PEACE FROG

This poem I'd like to dedicate to Rocky Jay and all my Island brothers......... >>>>Step By Step<<<< Our mother rises
She is tired....empty
Reclaiming what she bore
Some knew, some even cared.....but no one listened
We took more than she could give
We gave more than she could take
The colors from her shoulders are gone
What was once teemed in heavenly neon brilliance
Now stands stone
Thistle
Alabaster
The grave
Coughing Pale faces raped her with winking eyes
We stood....." buy", taking the mark
Trading our birthright for a bit of theShimmie shinny and the splitting head ache
Now she comes
Step by step
She lays it down and seals it over
Step by step
Like folding the laundry she puts it in order
Step by step
And lays it behind her
Step by step
I fear for my children
Step by step
Have mercy on us dear mother.......
My head hurts, I can't think
Step by step
Wait Wait, the winking eyes have answers
Step by step
I know you come for us
Step by step
What the shimmie shinny's left of us
Step by step
Sorrow.....
We are yours
No more, will you be tired or empty

I love it... alot of what you wrote describes utter emptiness, draining, emotional exhaustion... one of the worst, yet most complex of feelings. Thats my perspective anyway. Another great one :)

Island people in the past have believed that life comes from the sea as it is the source of their sustenance, refered to as "their mother". However corperate interests in their resources have really dealt a deadly blow the eco systems of these Island Paradises. Cheap labor and unregulated, unrestricted manufacturing have lead to chemicals and compounds being used that enevitably end up being washed out to sea. Killing the coral reefs and destroying the communities that live on them. Drag net fishing, killing hundreds of different species that are thrown back dead or dying. Cyanide fishing killing absolutely everything, not allowing natural recovery. All of these things allowed, in trade for basic needs. By people unaware of the consqeunces, or to desperate to care. They are duped into accepting this by corperate locusts who will after depleteing the resourses will move on. Leaving the Island inhabitants with a crippled and dying world. Now ironicly global warming and rising waters are now reclaiming these islands, some just above sea level, step by step inch by inch. You have to wonder if maybe "she's" just had enough. Worn out, beaten and bleeding rising in the twelfth round to answer the bell one more time.
