Okay, rant coming up.
I'm grocery shopping. I am in the produce section picking out apples, and I see a pack of four apples called "grapples". The package says "looks like an apple, tastes like a grape."
So, I figure, cool! It's a fancy new hybrid or something. I pick up the package, fascinated. Then, I see in small print:
Ingredients:
Fuji Apples, Artificial Grape flavoring
WTF???????
Now they have to f*** with APPLES? I shop the produce aisle simply because I KNOW what I'm getting!
I have to read small print in the PRODUCE section now??????
I feel like a dinosaur.
Anybody else think this is about the stupidest thing they've ever heard of????

that really creeps me out but you know even if it was a apple and grape together it still wouldn't be very good for you since they usually use chemicals to do that kind of stuff like salmon in tomatoes to make them bigger we have a scary world right now

man, if you haven't read The Botany of Desire you definately should. All kinds of crazy stuff about genetic modification and such. It's a fantastic book.

I don't know for sure, but I believe various flavors of cannabis have just been very carefully bred to bring out specific traits. As far as I know there isn't any freaky genetic engineering going on with the herb yet... :bandit:

My mom just made these things called broccolinis... they're genetically altered broccoli/spinach stalks... they tasted horrible.
And I was just reading this thing in NatGeo... about how 20 years ago, a chicken's breast meat accounted for 10% of a chicken's weight, and how now the breast accounts for 21%... with estimates of 30% in the near future. I mean, sure... I like big breasts, but this is going too far! Genetic diversity is vanishing from the henhouses of our planet, and soon we'll be in over our heads with chickens that need to eat more so they can grow to their genetically planned weights, and we'll have us a chicken-feed famine! Something needs to be done...

turkeys are all produced with AI, artificial insemination because they have been bread to have so much "breast meat" that the guys can't get close enough to do the deed.
As to Grapples, the USDA reseach folks are making more things like that. I beleive the press release said it was to get kids to eat more produce.
My guess is it is a KoolAid kind of grape. blech.

The worst thing is that besides the godless , filthy conditions of those slaughter houses is that the meat we pay good money for is injected with chemicals to add to the weight. It seems like they have to screw with everything we eat. Organic all the way!!

It could be your taste preference, or your mother's preparation, there are a lot of factors.
