Where is your very favorite place on the planet? A place you've been or would like to visit and why?

my absolute favorite place to go is the allagash river in northern maine. its beautiful, eagles, moose, bear, being up there, just gives me an awesome feeling. on one of the many lakes you can pull up on shore take a short trail and you come to this clearing and in the middle of it, is two huge steam engines from when they used to log on the river. its just so remote, and incredibly surreal to see these giant steam engine sitting there. you can climb all over and in it too. you can only get to it by canoe. then, there is the beautiful allagash falls. theres a quarter of a mile portage around it and theres all kinds of trails overlooking it and wow, the sound is amazing. with the risk of sounding cheesy, it definatly gives me a natural high. aww, now i really miss the river. i havent been in a year. hmm, must make canoeing plans.......

My two favorite places these days both happen to be right here in my home state. I love Mt. Hood; it's like a mental vacation for me to go up on the mountain with all the trees and snow, and it's dead quiet. Add the awesome sport of freeride snowboarding (which I can't do anymore...) and it's amazing. My other favorite place is the Oregon coast. I love the noise of the ocean because it's so calm and so immensly powerful at the same time, and I'm a person who needs to be surrounded by sound almost all the time. I'm such an ingrained city person that being in places that are too quiet creep me out, unless I have the option of leaving when I want, like on the mountain.

I would love to go to Italy my grandfather still has brothers and sisters there and I would have many cousins and family, Id love to see where he grew up and talk with his family, hear stories about him, he had 15 brothers and sisters!!
my grandpa has passed on and he was awesome, cutest little Italian man who played the mandalin and harmonica and sang and whistled, always was jingeling the change in his pockets it drove everyone crazy but me!!
I know alot of the family that lives in long island and I have met 2 cousins that live in Italy and have told me I am welcome any day any time.
places Ive been that are my favorite:
there are so many, and too many stories but here is one,
"the township building" I grew up 1 mile from it, walked there daily, pretty much did everything for the first time there, it was a playground, picnic place, huge lots of land and tree's we would climb and stay in them for hours talking.
I did alot of soul searching there, this one tree is so beautiful, I dont even know what it is, but it gives me chills, the wind there is eery, we used to think we were calling it and it come.
So many good memories about the township, I just took my son there saturday they got all new playground stuff, he loved it, hes been there before and will go many more times!!

Wow... it's funny that this would come up right now... I just got a bike last weekend, and I went for a ride down by the Royal River, a river that runs through my town. It's different now, however, because the snow has melted, and you can access parts I couldn't get to a week ago. I just found this little alcove type-place that looks right onto the river. It's really nice, and I spent half an hour there just hanging out yesterday. It was awesome.

I love visiting the Redwoods in Northern California. Or the Pacific Northwest's rainforest. The redwoods are my favorite place in the US. I have never been out of the US but I can't imagine getting that feeling that I get in the Redwoods any where else in the world.

I am going to Cebu for a week with my family excluding my father to visit my mother's relatives. My grandfather owns a small piece of land where my brothers and friends used to camp out in when we were younger. There are plenty of trees that we used to climb and get mangoes. I frequent the Quatro Islas (Four Islands), Calanggaman, Moalboal, Balicasag and the Sunken Islands, also has great diving spots and white sandy beaches. I'm going to the Guadalupe Cave again this time because it is a place for healing. I love all of Cebu.
Look at the water.

I am thinking of becoming a Journalist when I grow up. but I would realy like to go to a deep deep forest. Far away from civilization and just explore that forest for a while. I have had many dreams and just plain visions of that I hope I get to one day.
My absolute favourite place to be is Disneyland. My friends and I go there every Friday night just to hangout and get away from things. We have season passes and believe me we use the crap out of them. Haha. It's nice to just go there and hangout. Go on a few rides and just walk around and talk about the most random things possible. I love it. I also love being up at Mammoth. That is the most peaceful and relaxing place I have ever been to. The people are so nice up there and polite. The air is not poluted. It's so fresh that your lungs are actually confused by it because they are so use to the nasty air of L.A. The nights there are stunning. They actually have stars there. You can look up at the sky and it's scattered with stars. Everthing about that place is breath taking. I plan on moving up there permenently with my significant other in a few years.

I guess I would have to say my favorite place would have to be, in the words of the voice talents of the country band known as Lonestar,
The view I love the most is my front porch, looking in....[COLOR=DarkGreen]

aHHHHH... YOU SAID IT! My front porch in July, with lemonade and my family is pretty much unbeatable. All the neighborhood kids are out making their neighborhood sounds and people are walking their dogs and sauntering home from a quick dip in the town pool with flop flops on and towels around their hips.
In the world, even my favorite places, such as Costa Rica with it's lovely climate and friendly people, Merida with it's rich culture and gorgeous architecture and Prague with it's old world style and exciting night life... don't beat my front porch.

Oh Wow, Pedata! I love it too! Where do you put in?
If you ever happen to make it over my way (Eureka Springs, northwest corner of the state, hippie haven/artist community and my favorite place: Why? Because it's home, and there's no place like home :) ) look me up and we'll see some sights or sit on my veranda sipping a cool refreshing beverage and listen to my windchimes and watch the pilliated woodpeckers and other assorted wildlife and share some pleasant peaceable chat. I would so enjoy that!Wow! Another Arkansan!!! How cool is that. Yes, I've been to Eureka. I have, or had, family in Berryville.
I've put in at different parts of the Buffalo. Usually I camp at Buffalo point. Sometimes at Rush, when I have little money.
I put in at Maumee a lot. Have also gone from Buffalo point to Rush.
I like to go for the day at Grinder's Ferry. (Silver Hill, nine miles past Marshall).
Years ago we put in at Kyle's Landing and floated to Carver. That was in May and it was a tad too cold for me. But talk about a ride! Big ole rapids. That water is high and fast then.
I've been to other parts of the river....Steel Creek. Can't remember the names of them all tho.
Hey, I have some pilleated woodpeckers too :D big goofy looking things, lol.
Small world, eh? lol. Who knows, I might end up in Eureka again one day. I'll be sure to let you know :) I would love to sit on your veranda. Do you have a view of other people's roofs? Lol, that place is on such a hill.
Peace,
Cassandra

I thought of just one more, this thread had me thinking for some reason,
My favorite day of the week and why:
Sunday mornings, wake up to my sweet little boy, who likes to put his hand across my face and "pet me" thats what he calls it, so I wake up to that we play in my bed for a few minutes, he loves to sit on my knees with my legs bent he calls it top of the hill, then I shake my knees and he goes tumbling down, its fun.
We get up out of bed I turn the radio on or one of his cd's and we start making pancakes or french toast and he helps me, pulls a chair up to the counter, he is a very good helper, he can flip french toast, not pancakes though :)
I enjoy that more then anything, it makes the weekend worth waiting for. we sit and eat our pancakes and do whatever we want all day long. I love sundays!!!!!
funny, when you become a parent everything changes, what I used to think is fun, is now scary. What I used to think was scary (kids etc..) I now think is fun!!!

Hey Koz,
I've been to King's River, years ago.
No, unfortunately, I'm not near the Buffalo. I'm kind of north of Little Rock, out in the boonies. I went to Buffalo point one time last summer. The only time tho :(
I like to fish and float, but most of my fishing is done at the Little Red River (trout).
Who knows, I may get up there one day. That would be so cool to meet. Unfortunately I can't drive anymore, but members of my family go to the river once or twice a summer. I usually bum a ride.
You're so right, the Buffalo is beautiful :) It's all beautiful. Sometimes I think Arkansas is just a very well kept secret, lol.
Sorry everyone, I will stop highjacking the thread now.
Peace

I have to admit...it'd be pretty cool to say "new orleans" or "memphis" or some out of the way little rock somewhere...
But I have to agree with those who say their favorite place is right at home.
During the summer my favorite place is sitting outside on my shoreline.
During the winter, just curled up in front of a roaring fire.
Both of those places are awesome.

My favorite place right now is probably in northern Michigan, a town called Charlevoix. It's gorgeous and right on Lake Michigan. Beautiful trees and wildlife. It's great. I love Colorado, too. Pretty much anywhere in Colorado, all the mountains and trees. I love it.

Funny you bring that up because I was about to say the same thing. I go down and visit there for about a week each year at my grandfather's house. Ive been goin down there since i was a toddler and i still love it. The view of the mountains is gorgeous down there and it seems to get better everytime we go down. The people really are nice, they all wave at you and smile =).

I've been to so many wonderful and amazing, not to mention beautiful, places that it would be almost impossible to choose just one.
But for shits and giggles, let's pop off two - Heidelberg, Germany and San Francisco, California. Not just the city in either case, but the entire surrounding area and people therein. Wonderful places. Go to them before you die.
That is all.

I would have to agree with Toman. The Oregon coast is the best. I love the sound of the waves and the birds, and going body surfing and getting my face shoved into a sand bar by the waves. I dunno, I just love the ocean.
