Great Idea!!! Salt is Delightful. I wonder what terragon salt would taste like....kind of sounds like an odd thing.....but I Guess. Sage would be Yum.
Do you combine different Herbs? I think I saw a cooking show where they made this and a grouping of herbs was used. I just can't remember What. I want to Say it was Tylers Ultimate or something. Definately Food Network. |

My sister in law makes a mean herb salt ..I know it has rosemary, basil oregano, thyme , meyer lemon and a little sage. It's a good all purpose ..yummy on everything salt.
I don't have the quantities yet..so I guess just go for it and see what looks good lol I think I'm just going to go for it. I need to see if I can get sea salt that isn't super fine though...I like it w/ the consistency of thick sand. |

AWESOME idea meg! I've never tried to make my own but if you can get Himalayan sea salt then use that as it's the king of salt.
Let us know how it goes. ![]()

I hate to bring this up, but I must - the Himalayas are mountains, there is no Himalayan sea and thus no sea salt from that part of the world. "Himalayan salt", maybe, but it doesn't come from the sea.
Watch out for the marketing hype, while we have casually-enforced laws protecting consumers from outright false claims, we still have no laws protecting us from "mere puffery" as the lawyers phrase it. Sorry, but you need to be aware. |

Howdy Gaston,
Actually there WERE seas in the Himalayan region - about 250 million years ago. The same as the middle section of what is now the United States was covered by a great ocean - and at one time parts of the U.S. were SOUTH of the Equator. Ancient sea salt in presently mined in the Cleveland, Ohio area under Lake Erie (yep, that is correct - "under"). I live in Akron, Ohio and I do a little fossil hunting. In my area the Mississippian and Pennsylvania time period meet. The Mississippian was when we were covered by an ocean - and I find invertebrate fossils like clams and brachiopods. Above that strata is the Pennsylvanian when the oceans were receeding and they left great swamps with huge tree-ferns that died, fell into the swamps, and formed coal. Mountains are the product of tectonic plates or land masses that move about (very slowly). When they collide, land masses are pushed up to form mountains. This is why you can find marine fossils at the tops of mountains. For more info - check out a library book on historical geology. As far as the reported scams/health validity of Himalayan salt, I don't know squat. A Google search should be helpful. I am on a low-sodium diet due to heart problems - and I was a saltoholic! ( Be aware that salt is a killer. Then again - enjoy while you are young.Pax, Shaggy |

Thanks, Shaggy, I have been educated.
Ironically, last night I watched the movie "Himalaya", which was about taking the salt from the Tibetan Himalayas over the mountains to trade for grain. I love getting "schooled", now I have something else to pass on. |
