Default Birthday cake recipies?

Just wondering if anyone has a recipie for a birthday cake or a different suggestion of what to have on hand for children at my son's first birthday party.

calico--

did you need a vegan recipe? I have a vegan cake/icing recipe, and it is in the Moosewood Cookbook. If you would like the recipe, please tell me and I will type it up. Also, www.vegweb.com is an awesome place to get recipes for vegetarian dishes.

The train does sound cute and I thank you for your suggestion Libra, but I am looking for something a little more natural.
My biggest concern about a traditonal cake is the sugar, preservatives and "fillers" especially found in the frosting. I would really like to make the cake from scratch. Plus it will be my son's first birthday, he has never really had sugar except from fruit and the natural stuff he still gets from breast milk. I also don't want to assume that the other children who will be there have been exposed to a lot of sugar.
Ladywithafan, I would really appreciate it if you would write down the recipie for the cake and frosting. Have you had the cake yourself and did you like it?
I am not against sugar, I just feel that my son will have enough exposure to preservatives and fillers in his lifetime as he gets older.
