NBC Goes Green
NBC, owned by parent company GE, has launched a new
green campaign. Their site says, "GreenIsUniversal.com, the digital
home of NBC Universal's new initiative to bring an environmental
perspective
to our networks,
our platforms, our audiences, our communities ... in fact, to everything
we do.
We're kicking
it all off this week, with 7 days of environmentally focused
programming and a new "green" look
on all our channels, programs and sites. And right here at GreenIsUniversal.com,
you'll get green tips, green clips, and a fast-paced blog covering
everything we're doing at NBC Universal, and beyond. We hope you'll
dive in, join the conversation, and help us make "green" as
universal as we can"
Last night,
entire Thursday night lineup - "The Office," "My Name Is
Earl," "30 Rock," "Heroes" and "Deal
or No Deal" received an eco-theme. The environmental Godfather
himself, Al Gore, did a cameo on comedy show "30 Rock."
Those outside
of prime time are getting in on the action, too. The Sci Fi Channel
had an "aware" episode
of "Flash Gordon" followed by a "Dangerously Changing
Planet" movie night. Bravo's Tim Gunn tells us to "Make
it work . . . for the planet;" while "SVU" wants
us to police for polluters. Even "Jerry Springer" is "going
green."
The
irony is that NBC is owned by, General Electric, a major player
in the energy business. However,
Happyhippie.com has to give them
credit for trying and raising awareness through their entertainment
venues.
