Herb Use for Allergies

herbs for allergies Springtime is here, and so are the allergies! There are many herbs that can help ease the annoying symptoms of springtime allergies, that it’s hard to only list a few!

I don’t know about, you but I actually get excited when I feel a slight tickle in my throat, or have a sneeze that erupts from no where. These ‘signs’ mean I get to concoct my own herbal remedy, and best of all – I don’t have to step foot in a drug store! No more over the counter meds for this ‘herb mama’!

Herbal teas are a quick, easy way to get instant relief. Peppermint has great decongestant properties- simply steep a nice strong cup and get your tissues ready! Lemon Balm and Nettles are ‘nature’s antihistamines’, and drinking teas made with those herbs (either alone or combined) will ease allergies.

You can also make stronger infusions with herbs and drink through out the day. Here’s how!

Take ¾ cup dried herbs put them in a quart jar, pour boiling water over top, cover and let sit for up to 4 hours, strain and then drink. You can warm it back up if you’d like or drink it at room temperature, Or, steep as usual for a less potent concoction. Unlike over the counter medications which you can only take a certain amount, these herbal teas may be safely consumed all day long.

Both honey and pollen have many amazing properties and would be great to add to your daily routine!

Did you know consuming local honey or local bee pollen may help in reducing allergy symptoms from trees and flowers? You may either add honey to your tea or just eat it raw, which is my favorite thing to do — yum! Sprinkle some local bee pollen in your tea, or you can just eat 1 tsp daily raw or mixed with some of that yummy honey. For best results, start a honey regimen a few months before Spring season hits, but it’s never too late to start.

The local honey and bee polen will help immunize your body naturally to the local plant pollens in your area. Buying local with also help out your local bee keeper, while stopping those sniffles and sneezes.

Here’s a quick list of some herbs that you may want on hand if you suffer from seasonal allergies.
